Pokémon Economics- Club
with Karl Liggin
Economics is described as the science of choice, centered on the principle that society has unlimited wants that depend on scarce resources.
In this club, teens will learn about economic concepts through an analysis of the online Pokémon card game and its player driven market system. Concepts such as fiat currency, supply & demmand, market equilibrium, opportunity costs, and trade will be discussed by the class as they observe trends in the game economy over time.
This 12 week club is for grades 6-8. Students will be expected to have permission from parents to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game online (no extra cost) outside of class at least a couple hours a week in order for students to build up virtual items of value to analyze and discuss in class.
