Color Theory and Design

This course course will explore how psychology, design, and color theory work together in different medias and art forms. Students will explore principles that will then be applied to understand how elements of art make an art piece visually compelling and how the principles of design aid in marketing impact consumers. The students will not only learn the concepts of color theory and design but also the application through media such as paint, photography, laser cutting, and wood burning. Presenting their own art and critique others' artwork will be an important part of this class.
Class Structure: 11 week course, an one hour class a week. Cover color theory over 3 weeks with 2 paint art projects and a critique day, Cover Principles of Design over 3 weeks with 2 photography projects and a critique day, and cover the Elements of Art over 5 weeks focus on 1 art project that uses the laser cutter, drawing, wood burning, and paint. A week dedicated for each media then a critique day.
Sewing a Sustainable Closet

Are you looking for a way to spice up your wardrobe? In this course, students will learn how to sew garments and accessories such as scarves, hats, tops, and bottoms from upcycled materials. Topics covered include basic machine sewing techniques, button holes, seam finishes, bias tape, easing and gathering, and interfacing.
This 6 week course includes materials, but you may want to provide your own clothing to personalize.
