FIRST LEGO League Team - Community

$280

with Cody Hutcheson

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students (ages 9 - 14). Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research. The robotics part of the competition involves designing and programming LEGO Mindstorms robots to complete tasks. The students work out solutions to the various problems they are given and then meet for regional tournaments to share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots.

The theme for 2021 is "Game Changers". The precise competition dates are released later in the season, with Regional Competition Date options typically in late November or early December. Teams advancing to the State Competition will have practices extending into January and should be prepared to register for our post season class.

Telescope Building Mentorship with Project Nightsky

$1,69750

with Haley Rice

Calendar Current session started Sep 7, 2020 , runs for 9 weeks

This mentorship for high school and adults is a telescope-building course adapted to mobile astronomy education needs. Our goal in partnering with Project Night Sky is to provide one-on-one mentorship to students, allowing them to build their very first telescope, and by extent, learning to understand the mathematical, historical, and cultural side to optics. We will meet in-person to build telescopes, sextants, and study celestial navigation and distance-calculations. The level of math we use is dependent on the ability of each student.

This mentorship lasts for 9 weeks and includes an individual meeting 2 hours a week on Monday or Wednesday afternoons. Arrangements can be made to meet through zoom or off-site (for an additional fee). Contact us at haleyr@hsvsteamworks or 256-489-0610 for more information or to check on available class times.

The cost is $795 per student for groups of 6 or more.
